DAY OF GLADIATORS
GAME DAY: April 27th 2008
FIRST OFFICIAL TROPHY GAME EVER
6 MONTHS OF TRAINING
7 BBQ GRILLS GOING
I REMEMBER MY FINEST MOMENT. THE SMALL CROWD COULD'NT BELIEVE WHAT THEY WHERE SEEING. BUT I WAS ON FIRE!
I was facing off against the Juggernauts. A bunch of rough neck, high school kids ready and rearing to go. The smell of cooking meat in the air. The way the crowd looked on at this very strange, cool new combination of sports. The way they gasped and cheered. It was a good day to die!... TO VALHALLA!
It was the last couple rounds and a close score, 7 to 8. they had just eliminated my entire team. It's where the idea for the gauntlet challenge was created... And yes I pondered that thought while facing the 1 vs 5... as I controlled the fodderball back to my side. They wouldn't take me on one on one by crossing in though and time was ticking. So I kicked the fodderball in threw the keep, to let them charge in all at once. A few charged. But only Three.
After deflecting and dodging about 8 or 9 balls from the 3 opponents charging in. I somehow managed to bounce the last ball up, right in front of me as I deflected it. Kinda seemed to hover there. Then somehow, I actually managed to tip the ball with the end of my sword. Now in the time it took you to read this paragraph all 3 where eliminated.
However. I'll go on. The kendoball bounced back up in the air.Hovering there again all slowly. It was weird. I threw my sword up in the air catching it in my left hand, I stepped in, grabbed the kendoball out of the air with my right hand and threw it back at the guy that threw it at me. Tagging him out as the other two charged in from the right flank. Stabbing in at me at the same time, I quickly spun around and pushed both my opponents swords away pushing one sword into his team mates sword. Now grabbing his teammates sword and disarming him, I used it, to kill his teammate with a controlled head shot right to the top of his dome and then quickly finish off the other guy with two swords. Easy considering he was disarmed. I now had two swords and two opponents left. After dispatching one with a furious haste the other literally ran off the field. Right past his own keep. I also decided then to make up a rule that you could not quit, surrender, retreat or in any other way shape or form eliminate yourself from the game.
I HAVE A GOAL, A DREAM, A VISION. JOIN ME IN MY NOBLE QUEST.
I'LL NOT QUIT. NOT SURRENDER. I SHALL NOT GIVE UP.
THE NEXT GAME WAS NOT HELD FOR SOME TIME. THO I STILL CONTINUED TO TRAIN SMALL BANDS OF PLAYERS, MANY MOVED, AS DID I.
I SPENT MUCH OF MY FREE TIME WRITING THE KNIGHTS MANUEL AND OFFICIAL RULES. IN SHORT THE NEXT TROPHY GAME WAS HELD IN 2011
IT WAS A BUNCH OF MOSTLY UNTRAINED MISFITS. NOT THE MOST EPIC OF BATTLES. PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST PAINFUL THOUGH.
